Villa Xtohil is on a large property, atop a hill facing Laguna Bacalar. This place is a find, as we saw few waterfront vacation rentals, and lake access is largely limited to beach clubs and hotels. The pictures don’t do justice to the stunning view of the lake from the dock, and it gets better if you set out on the included 2-person kayak.
The Villa is not luxurious, but it is clean and comfortable (a/c in bedrooms) and nicer than the photos suggest. The Villa feels private but not isolated, as it is not far from the city center and you can park your car inside the gates (by a huge banyan tree). The caretaker, Joaquin, was nearby and exceptionally helpful, even bringing us fruits and coconuts from his mother’s place.
The managing staff at Aloja were kind and responsive, though a bit disorganized. I would’ve liked more advance information about check in and more information about gear rentals, local attractions, bars & restaurants. Anyway, our stay was great and we'd definitely return

Wunderschöne Unterkunft. Direkt an der Lagune. Leider ist die große Straße die eigentlich weit hinter dem Haus liegt hörbar. Aber wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und fühlten uns gut betreut. Herrliche Aussicht auf die Lagune. Man kann morgens direkt losschwimmen.
